Common Breast Augmentation Incision Sites

For patients having a breast augmentation it is imperative that the results are as natural looking as possible. For this very reason, surgeons have
come up with various incision sites to insert the breast implants into place and leave the patient with the best looking breasts possible. The most
common incision sites are through the areola, the inframammary fold, the navel, and transaxillary.

During a breast enlargement when the implant is inserted into the body through the areola, the dark
area around the outside of the nipple on the breast, it is called the peri-areola technique. This is a favorite of patients because the scars are
better camouflaged by the darker color of the nipple. Doctors like this site as well due to the ability to better place the implants in the chest
cavity.

The inframammary fold is where the incision made to insert the implant is along the crease of the breast. If done correctly then the incision can go
virtually unnoticed. If a doctor miscalculates then the remaining scar will be highly noticeable after surgery. In addition, if you ever decide to have
breast enlargements the incisions from your previous breast augmentation site will ride up on the lower part of your breast and be visible.

When having breast augmentation through the navel an implant is inserted through your belly button and into the chest cavity. This type of incision is
great for no visible scars around the breast area since it is preformed from the navel area with an endoscope and a filling tube. Only one scar will
result because both breasts can enter the body through the same incision site.

The last way an implant can be inserted during breast enlargements is transaxillary under the arm and then the implant is inserted into place. The good
thing about an incision made transxillary is that they are usual never seen since the under arm area is concealed a majority of the time and even if
the scars heal wrong they are not something that a person would readily notice as a breast augmentation incision. At the same time it is possible to
have surgery to correct other problems with the breast such as large or inverted nipple problems which are a very common
occurrence.
